Translating Research for Policy & Practice
My work in policy has pressed me to get serious about ensuring academic work is accessible in plain language that policymakers and practitioners can use.
I've written an essay about how academics can link our work to federal policy more effectively in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS); you can find it here: "Democratizing Social Scientists' Impact on Federal Policy: Using the Evidence Act to Help Government and Ourselves."
Below, please find my version of a "research translation blueprint," based on my time in government. I hope that visitors find it useful!
Please feel free to download, modify, and use in any way that is helpful to you. And let me know what you think! If you love it and use it, please cite it.
I'm also including my own research translations for recently published work in the American Journal of Sociology and Sociology of Education. Hoping they provide useful examples!
